Zora the Red-Haired Girl is a powerful and engaging theatre performance that tells a timeless story about courage, resistance to injustice, and the strength of friendship – themes that remain deeply relevant today.
Set in the coastal town of Senj in the 1930s, the play is based on Kurt Held’s 1941 novel inspired by real events. At the heart of the story is Zora, a fearless and charismatic fourteen-year-old girl with fiery red hair and an even fiercer spirit. She leads a group of outcast children known as the “Uskoks,” who live in the ruins of Nehajgrad fortress and fight against injustice, greed, and corruption.
When a boy named Branko loses his mother and home, Zora and her group become his new family. Their struggle goes far beyond childhood adventure – it is a moving story about solidarity, moral courage, and standing up for what is right.
Directed by Rene Medvešek, this dynamic stage adaptation captivates audiences of all ages and raises important questions:
What does it mean to be just? Where is the line between law and justice? And how far are we willing to go to protect those we love?
